LIFE VERTALIM took part in the conference organized by LIFE NADAPTA: Early warning and control systems to prevent the impacts of sewage treatment plants
Last Wednesday, December 12, a dissemination workshop of the LIFE NADAPTA project was held: Early warning and control systems to prevent the impacts of sewage treatment plants, in which LIFE VERTALIM had a presentation to show its results.
In addition to the both projects partners, there had attended a broad representation of water management entities, administrations, equipment companies and the food sector.
On this day, different aspects of the WWTP performance were highlighted. The performance is determined by the parameters of raw water (with a high incidence of industrial origin wastewater due to its composition and variability), the facilities themselves, the type of treatment designed and the operation of the personnel responsible for them.
The prevention of contaminants at source and the implementation of continuous analyzer equipment and on-line sensors allow to operate the wastewater treatment plants in a more efficient way. Moreover, the management of possible emergencies helps to avoide the networks impacts, which are increasingly sensitive.
To respond to this challenge, Iñigo Gonzalez (CABB) gave a presentation in which he exposed the main technical obstacles to be overcome when implementing industrial wastewater management options, based on the experience and results of the LIFE VERTALIM project. He showed the effects of non-retained fats in the canneries’ pretreatments. In the same way, the effect of the high levels of hydrogen sulfide derived from the high retention times in the collector network.
