- The Food 4 Future-Expo FoodTech international fair, organised by AZTI and Nebext, will be held from 17 to 19 May at the Bilbao Exhibition Center (BEC!) in Bilbao.
Derio, 12 May 2022- On 17, 18 and 19 May, the AZTI technology centre will have a prominent presence at the Food 4 Future international fair, where it will be exhibiting some of its scientific results to make progress in improving people’s health and the sustainability of the food chain.
The second edition of the event co-organised by AZTI and Nebext will serve as a showcase for all the centre’s knowledge in areas such as personalised nutrition, the application of technologies such as artificial intelligence or sensor technology, and consumer trends.
The two main presentations will be given by AZTI researchers Saioa Ramos (19 May, 12:00) and Itziar Tueros (19 May, 15:30).
On the one hand, Ramos will participate in a talk focused on the decisive role that trust plays in the current food system and how the new European consumers act in the face of more sustainable and innovative food options.
On the other hand, Tueros will analyse the opportunities offered by new techniques and technologies in the development of effective and personalised food and nutrition solutions to improve people’s health and well-being.
Artificial intelligence and sensor technology
AZTI will also be present in the Innovation area of the Food 4 Future fair through the voices of researchers Álex Barranco (18 May, 13:00) and Idoia Olabarrieta (19 May, 15:30).
Barranco will focus on biosensor technology and its possibilities as an alternative to current tests for analysing food quality and safety. Olabarrieta will provide the keys to understanding how artificial intelligence and techniques such as Machine Learning can benefit food production by helping to improve the efficiency of operations, supply chains and better understand consumer behaviour.
Alternative food sources
In addition, on the first day of Food 4 Future, AZTI expert David San Martín (17 May, 12:00) will give a presentation in the EIT Auditorium on current aquaculture feeding processes and the need to reduce the use of meal and oil from wild fish.
The researcher will present the Life Brewery project, in which AZTI has worked on giving a second life to beer by-products as a nutritional ingredient in aquaculture, as an example of new methods for finding alternative sources of fish feed in the aquaculture industry.
The second edition of the international trade fair Food 4 Future-Expo FoodTech will be held at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC!) in Bilbao from 17 to 19 May 2022. In its first edition it brought together more than 5,000 professionals from the food sector from 22 different countries.
