Study on ownership and exclusive rights of fisheries means of production
The findings of this study will contribute to a better understanding of who benefits from quotas and hence from the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), including from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). It will also provide valuable information on the impact assessment that will accompany a possible successor funding programme in support of the CFP.
This study will provide an analysis of the ownership structure of all fishing vessels means of production, licences, as well as exclusive rights (quotas) in the catching sector of each of the following 9 EU Member States (MS): Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom
In addition, the study will document the recent evolution of this structure, assess its impact on the economic performance of the respective fleet segments and, on this basis, anticipate possible future prospects for these segments, as well as for rights-based management systems. The outcomes of this study will be used in future evaluations and impact assessments.
Objectives:
- Documenting the ultimateownership of fishing vessels, quota and quota-holding firms.
- Defining the nationality of the ultimate owners of the firms involved in the fishing sector.
- Understanding the concentration of vessels, quotas and fishing rights at Member State level.
